Selecting an artist

There are several things to consider when selecting a portrait artist. Here are a few things that will help you determine what you should expect in a portrait artist. • Budget: Each artist works at a different rate; most of our artists are professional fine artists so their work is in high in demand and each one has a price range according to how much he/she is in demand in the art market. • Time: Each individual artist has a time frame that he/she can complete a work of art and also could potentially either have a waiting list or is backlogged due to either existing portraits or gallery shows. One thing to remember is that our artists are highly acclaimed, gallery and portrait artists so if you are in a rush for a commission, rush fees will apply; usually 25%. • Style: We offer several styles of artist from Classical Realism, Impressionistic to Modern Abstract. Based on the architecture and design of your home or office, your style selection should be based on those criteria. We can help you select a style if you are unsure or we can work with your interior decorator to select the appropriate style. • Sittings: Most of our artists prefer to have a sitting or multiple sittings with the sitter(s). This consists of a preliminary meeting and sketch session and then a single or multiple “from life” painting sessions that the artist will require. However, many cases dictate that this is not possible such as a posthumous portrait, busy professional or young children. In this situation the artist will request a photo shoot or access to preferably color photographs of the subject to complete the portrait. • Location: Depending on your location, the artist will most likely need to travel to you so the closer and more available an artist is, the more economical and timely this preference will be.
